What Do We Feed Them? Plated Dinner vs. Buffet

Welcome back to Episode Three of our Superstition Manor Educational Series! This week, we’re answering one of the biggest—and tastiest—wedding planning questions:

What do we feed them?!

Mackenzie and Kendra, two of our planners here at Superstition Manor, are breaking down plated dinners vs. buffetsand helping you decide which option fits the feeling you want for your wedding day.

Plated Dinner: Elegant & Structured

If you’re dreaming of an elegant, black-tie-inspired reception, a plated dinner may be exactly what you’re looking for.

With plated service, your guests stay seated while dinner is brought directly to their tables. You can also offer different entrée selections, giving your guests the opportunity to choose their meal ahead of time.

The trade-off? A little more organization before the wedding.

If you’re offering multiple meal choices, you’ll need a seating chart along with place cards that indicate each guest’s entrée selection. This helps the catering team know exactly where every meal needs to go and keeps dinner service running smoothly.

For couples who love a formal, structured dinner experience, plated service can create that elevated feeling beautifully.

Buffet: Relaxed & Social

Now let’s talk buffet!

A buffet gives your guests options and allows them to choose what they would like once dinner begins. It naturally creates a slightly more relaxed atmosphere and gives guests another opportunity to get up, mingle and chat throughout the reception.

Another bonus? You don’t need individual meal indicator cards for each guest.

We still recommend having a seating chart to make the reception easier for everyone, but there’s less organization required when it comes to keeping track of individual entrée selections.

But Will Everyone Rush the Buffet?

Don’t worry—we’ve got you covered!

One of the ways our team helps keep your wedding dinner running smoothly is by working directly with your DJ. Instead of every guest heading to the buffet at once, tables are dismissed in an organized fashion.

It keeps the line manageable, helps dinner flow smoothly and lets you enjoy your reception without worrying about directing your guests yourself.

That’s what your Manor team is here for!

So…Which One Is Better?

There really is no wrong answer.

If you want your wedding to feel more formal, elegant and structured, plated service may fit your vision.

If you want something a little more relaxed, social and flexible, buffet service might be the perfect choice.

Your dinner should feel like the rest of your wedding day—like you.

And if you still can’t decide? That’s exactly what we’re here for. Talk with your Manor planner about your guest count, reception style and overall vision, and we’ll help you figure out which option makes the most sense for your celebration.

Because feeding your guests shouldn’t be one more thing to stress about. It should be another part of the day you’re excited about!
