What to Ask When You Tour a Wedding Venue
Touring wedding venues is exciting. You are walking through ceremony spaces, imagining your first dance, picturing your guests at the tables, and trying to decide if you can see yourself getting married there.
But while you are taking in all the pretty details, there are some very important questions you should be asking.
Welcome to the first episode of our new educational series! Our planning team at Superstition Manor has gathered some of the questions we think every couple should ask when touring a wedding venue.
Because finding a venue you love is important—but knowing exactly what you are signing up for is just as important.
1. What Is This Actually Going to Cost Us?
Start with the big one.
When a venue gives you a price, ask what that number actually includes. Is it simply the rental of the space? Does it include tables and chairs? Linens? Catering? Staffing? Setup and breakdown? A coordinator? Décor?
And most importantly: what additional costs should you expect after booking?
A venue that initially looks less expensive can become much more expensive once rentals, staffing, catering, coordination, and other necessities are added.
At Superstition Manor, we are an all-inclusive venue because we want couples to understand what they are getting from the beginning. The more information you have upfront, the easier it is to build a wedding budget that actually makes sense.

2. What Happens If the Weather Changes?
Especially when planning an Arizona wedding, this is a question you do not want to skip.
Ask the venue what happens if rain, wind, extreme heat, or another weather issue affects your original plans.
Is there an indoor ceremony option?
When is the decision made to move the ceremony?
Who makes that decision?
Will the team handle the transition?
A beautiful outdoor ceremony space is wonderful—but a solid backup plan is just as important. You want to know that if Mother Nature decides to join the guest list, there is already a plan in place.
3. Do You Have Preferred Vendors—and Do We Have to Use Them?
Most venues have vendors they know, trust, and work with regularly. That can actually be incredibly helpful because those vendors are already familiar with the property, venue rules, timelines, and setup process.
But there is an important difference between a preferred vendor and a required vendor.
Ask which vendors you are required to use, if any, and where you are allowed to bring in someone of your own choosing.
You should also ask whether there are extra fees, insurance requirements, or restrictions for bringing in outside vendors.
Knowing this before you book can save you from surprises later—especially if you already have a photographer, florist, DJ, or another wedding professional you love.

4. What Are the Venue’s Rules and Restrictions?
This is a BIG category, and there are plenty of little questions hiding inside it.
Ask about your arrival time and when the event needs to end. Find out who handles setup and breakdown and how much time is available for both.
Ask who your point of contact will be throughout the planning process and who will actually be there on your wedding day.
You will also want to know about décor restrictions, candles, send-offs, outside food, alcohol, vendor arrival times, and anything else that may affect your plans.
These details may not be the most glamorous part of touring a venue, but they have a huge impact on how smoothly your wedding day runs.
5. What Time Do We Get Access to the Getting-Ready Suites?
Do not assume your venue rental automatically means you have access to the getting-ready spaces all day.
Ask exactly when you and your wedding party are allowed to arrive.
If hair and makeup starts early, you want to know whether your venue can accommodate that schedule or if you will need to get ready somewhere else first.
At Superstition Manor, our getting-ready suites are designed to be part of your wedding day experience—not simply a room you step into right before the ceremony.
Having plenty of time to settle in, get ready, take photos, eat something, and enjoy your wedding party can completely change the way the beginning of your day feels.

6. What Does the Wedding Day Feel Like From the Guests’ Perspective?
This is one of our favorite questions because couples naturally look at a venue through their own eyes—but your guests will experience the property differently.
Walk through the day like a guest.
Where do they go when they arrive?
How do they get from the ceremony to cocktail hour?
Where are the restrooms?
Where will cocktail hour happen?
How far do guests have to walk to the reception?
Will they know where they are supposed to go next?
The flow of a venue can make a huge difference in the guest experience.
You want your wedding to feel effortless—not like your guests are constantly wondering where they are supposed to be.
7. What Is NOT Included?
Sometimes this is the most important question on the entire list.
We spend so much time asking venues what they include that couples can forget to ask what they don’t.
Before signing a contract, ask the venue to clearly explain what you will still be responsible for booking, purchasing, bringing, setting up, or coordinating yourself.
Maybe photography is separate. Maybe alcohol is separate. Maybe décor setup is your responsibility. Maybe you need to rent linens, dishes, or chairs.
Every venue is different, and “all-inclusive” does not always mean the same thing from one venue to another.
Ask the question clearly:
“What will we still need to book or provide ourselves?”
That one question can tell you a lot.

Your Venue Tour Is About More Than Loving the Space
Of course you should walk into your wedding venue and think, This is beautiful.
But you should also walk away knowing how your day will actually work.
Our planning team has watched hundreds of wedding days unfold, and we know that the little logistical details couples ask about before booking can make a huge difference later.
So bring your questions. Take notes. Ask about the things that feel obvious and the things that don’t.
A great venue should want you to understand exactly what your wedding day will look like.
And this is only Episode 1 of our educational series.
We are taking the questions our planners hear every day and breaking them down so you can walk into wedding planning feeling a whole lot more prepared.
